Mission Lifeline: Gold and Gold Plus Receiving Quality Achievement Awards
All four of Main Line Health's acute care hospitals are the recipients of the American Heart Association's (AHA) Mission: Lifeline® Award. Each hospital independently received these recognitions by implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association for the treatment of high risk emergencies including heart attack, stroke and cardiac arrest to help save lives and improve patient outcomes.
Lankenau Medical Center received the Mission: Lifeline Receiving Center Recognition Gold Plus Award; Bryn Mawr Hospital, Paoli Hospital, Bryn Mawr Hospital and Riddle Hospital received the Mission: Lifeline Receiving Center Recognition Gold Award; and Riddle Hospital’s EMS team received the Mission Lifeline – EMS Gold Plus recognition.
Joint Commission Thrombectomy-Capable Certification
Bryn Mawr Hospital earned the thrombectomy-capable certification in 2018. Bryn Mawr Hospital was evaluated during an onsite review for compliance with the Thrombectomy Stroke Capable requirements by the Joint Commission. To be eligible for the certification, Bryn Mawr Hospital was required to meet strict guidelines that include the ability to perform 24/7 stroke intervention including subspecialized neurosurgery, neurology and neurocritical care.
Better than the National Average for Hemorrhagic Conversion
In 2020, Bryn Mawr Hospital's hemorrhagic transformation rate (the percent of patients who have bleeding in the brain after treatment with clot busting IV medication or clot removal) was 5.9% at Bryn Mawr Hospital. National average for this hemorrhagic transformation is up to 7% as reported by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.
American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Get with the Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award
All four Main Line Health acute care hospitals have received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award and Diabetes Honor Roll Awards. The award recognizes each hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.
Lankenau Medical Center received the Target Stroke Honor Roll Elite, Paoli and Riddle Hospitals received the Target Stroke Honor Roll award, and Bryn Mawr Hospital received the Advanced Therapy award. Hospitals receiving these awards must meet quality measures developed to reduce the time between the patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with the clot-buster tissue plasminogen activator, or tPA, the only drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat ischemic stroke.
