As experts in food and nutrition, Main Line Health registered dietitians provide nutrition assessments to create nutrition plans that are customized to your individual health condition and lifestyle, and the requirements of your physicians who have developed your treatment plan. They also provide nutrition education for disease prevention and nutrition counseling for chronic conditions over a series of visits. One-on-one nutrition counseling
One-on-one nutrition counseling begins with a prescription from your physician who has diagnosed your health condition and prescribed a change in your diet. Your private session may include the following:
- A review of all of your lab work, medical history, and your current medications
- An analysis of your current diet from a food log of your daily meals
- Information on counting calories or carbohydrates, what foods contain sodium and wheat and how to eliminate or decrease them, selecting healthy fat and protein sources
- Tips for the elimination or inclusion of certain foods into your daily healthy eating plans, how to manage your diet on your own by counting the calories in different foods, where to buy the foods you need in your diet and how to measure certain ingredients that may need to be monitored in your specific diet plan
- Discussion about any personal goals you may have, including weight loss. You may choose to have only one session with your dietitian or, depending on your personal diet goals, you may have multiple sessions with your dietitian.
Ongoing community education about nutrition
If you have not been prescribed nutrition counseling to manage a specific condition and have an interest in learning more about healthy eating, Main Line Health offers a number of free community education seminars and demonstrations at our hospitals and health centers, and at other convenient locations in your community.
