Bryn Mawr, PA — Every second counts when the signs of a stroke appear. Main Line Health’s commitment to following guidelines that translate into rapid, high-quality care has again resulted in all four of its acute care hospitals receiving recognition from the American Heart Association (AHA).

Lankenau Medical Center, Bryn Mawr Hospital, Paoli Hospital and Riddle Hospital each received the Get With The Guidelines® — Stroke Gold Plus Award for 2025 for their consistent efforts in applying nationally recognized, research-based guidelines for stroke care, including the timely administration of IV anti-clotting drugs, prescribing stroke-prevention drugs at discharge, and other measures.

“I am proud that no matter which hospital you go to at Main Line Health, you will receive stroke care that meets the highest standards of excellence,” said Ed Jimenez, President and CEO, Main Line Health. “Our patients deserve nothing less, and that’s what we provide. Our physicians, nurses and staff richly deserve this honor for their dedication, skill and continued efforts toward improvement.”

Every year, nearly 800,000 people in the United States have a stroke, which occurs when a blood vessel to the brain ruptures or becomes blocked by a clot, interrupting blood flow and causing brain cells to die. Stroke is a leading cause of disability and the fifth-leading cause of death for Americans, contributing to the deaths of about 160,000 people each year.

Bryn Mawr Hospital and Paoli Hospital also earned the AHA’s Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus with Advanced Therapy recognition, reflecting the speed of door-to-needle times for patients. Lankenau Medical Center and Riddle Hospital received Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite recognition.

“We know that when we adhere to evidence-based guidelines determined by the best experts in the field, patient outcomes improve,” said Ravichandra Madineni, MD, System Division Chief of Neurosurgery at Main Line Health-Jefferson Neurosurgery. “That’s why Get With The Guidelines recognition is so meaningful. Every moment saved in delivering stroke care means more lives preserved, fewer disabilities and greater hope for patients and families.”

Each year, program participants qualify for the award by demonstrating how their organization has committed to providing quality care for stroke patients. In addition to following treatment guidelines, Get With The Guidelines participants also educate patients to help them manage their health and recovery at home.
