2025 Mission: Lifeline® Systems of Care Regional Award

Bryn Mawr, PAMain Line Health has received two prestigious recognitions from the American Heart Association (AHA) for outstanding achievement in the treatment of people experiencing a type of heart attack known to be more dangerous than others.

The 2025 Mission: Lifeline® Systems of Care Regional Award recognizes the strength of Main Line Health’s regional partnerships and collaborative response in providing care for ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), which is caused by a complete blockage in a coronary artery.

Get With The Guidelines® — Coronary Artery Disease STEMI Receiving Center Gold status acknowledges Main Line Health’s four acute care hospitals individually — Lankenau Medical Center, Bryn Mawr Hospital, Paoli Hospital and Riddle Hospital — for their commitment to offering rapid, research-based care to people experiencing STEMI. It is the second consecutive time that all four hospitals have received the honor.

“Main Line Health is dedicated to improving the quality of heart care, and the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines program helps us achieve that goal,” said Ed Jimenez, President and CEO of Main Line Health. “The program puts proven knowledge and guidelines to work on a daily basis so patients have the best chance of survival. I’m proud to see our physicians, nurses and staff recognized for their unwavering dedication and effort, demonstrating our leadership in the region for high-quality cardiac care.”

Each year, more than 1 million cases of acute coronary syndrome require hospitalization in the U.S., and about 30% of these cases are classified as STEMI. Like all heart attacks, timely treatment is critical to restore blood flow as quickly as possible.

Recognition as a STEMI Receiving Center is designed to showcase hospitals that provide 24/7 support for STEMI. These important facilities coordinate with a network of referring hospitals and emergency medical services to provide guideline-directed STEMI and non-STEMI care. The STEMI Receiving Center award is earned by hospitals that demonstrate a commitment to treating patients according to the most up-to-date research-based guidelines for STEMI care as outlined by the American Heart Association.

“This accolade mirrors the hard work, remarkable skill, and tireless dedication of our entire medical staff,” said William Gray, MD, System Chief of Cardiovascular Diseases at Main Line Health and Co-Director of Lankenau Heart Institute. “Their unwavering adherence to the highest standards of care ensures our patients benefit from the best and most prompt treatments. This recognition highlights the critical role of evidence-based methodologies and our ongoing efforts in delivering rapid, life-saving care. We are proud of our achievements and continue to strive for excellence in all we do.”

In addition, the four hospitals received the American Heart Association’s Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll award. The program aims to ensure patients with Type 2 diabetes, who might be at higher risk for complications, receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized due to heart attack.
