Main Line Health’s four acute care hospitals earn an A for patient safety from Leapfrog

Main Line Health hospitals

Lankenau Medical Center, Bryn Mawr Hospital, Paoli Hospital and Riddle Hospital all recognized for excellence based on national performance measures

Bryn Mawr, PA — All four Main Line Health acute care hospitals earned a Hospital Safety Grade of A for fall 2023 from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit watchdog that sets standards for excellence in patient care.

Leapfrog assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to nearly 3,000 hospitals across the country based on up to 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems that hospitals have in place to prevent harm. Lankenau Medical Center, Bryn Mawr Hospital, Paoli Hospital and Riddle Hospital all received the highest grade.

“Nothing takes higher priority than the safety of our patients,” said Jack Lynch, FACHE, President and CEO, Main Line Health. “I am thrilled that the Leapfrog grading system, which is based on a deep dive into federal data, shows that no matter which Main Line Health hospital a patient chooses, they can count on the same commitment and rigorous effort to ensure their safety. Every one of our Main Line Health staff members deserves to take pride in this prestigious recognition.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is based on Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services performance measures and is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually in the fall and spring. These new fall grades are primarily based on post-pandemic data including health care-associated infections and the patient experience.

“Earning an A grade means Main Line Health’s acute care hospitals made a true commitment to put patients first,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the leadership, board, clinicians, staff and volunteers that all had a role to play in this achievement.”
