Getting well doesn’t just happen from a hospital bed or inside a gym. Sometimes, letting patients get back to nature is the key to physical and psychological recovery.
Orthopaedic rehabilitation at Bryn Mawr Rehab is a comprehensive program designed to assist individuals in regaining strength, mobility and endurance following a variety of orthopaedic conditions. This program leverages a blend of traditional and innovative therapies to meet the unique needs of each patient.
Our approach prioritizes personalized exercises and treatments to improve mobility and reduce pain caused by:
Individuals with sports injuries, arthritis, osteoporosis and anyone facing surgery for joint replacements or repairing severe fractures can benefit from orthopaedic rehab. Early intervention through rehabilitation can make a critical difference in the speed and extent of recovery.
Patients admitted to Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital undergo three hours of intensive therapy at least five days a week. Each patient benefits from a customized treatment regimen which may include:
On the inpatient side, a typical orthopaedic rehab session starts with pain reduction before increasing to range of motion, strength, mobility, coordination and endurance. In addition to traditional physical therapy and occupational therapy, our orthopaedic rehab team offers creative treatment options like horticulture therapy and pet therapy to help orthopaedic rehab patients make progress toward their therapy goals.
People who see us for inpatient care are encouraged to continue the healing process through our comprehensive outpatient programs. Orthopaedic rehabilitation is customized to the goals and interests that best motivate our patients. Orthopaedic rehab services may include:
450 — number of orthopaedic rehab inpatients between the ages of 18 and 97 each year
14 — average number of days patients stay on-site
84 — percentage of inpatients able to return home after discharge
Upon entering our orthopaedic rehab program, patients can anticipate a comprehensive journey toward recovery. The initial focus is on pain reduction, which gradually progresses to enhancing physical function. Each patient benefits from a personalized treatment plan aimed at achieving their specific rehabilitation goals. Beyond the physical aspect of therapy, our program is designed to provide extensive education on fall prevention, home safety and the use of adaptive equipment to both patients and their families, facilitating a smooth transition back to an active lifestyle.
We also encourage and support patient and family education whenever possible to ease the transition to an active lifestyle after hospitalization. To keep families involved during inpatient rehab, Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital offers on-site guest accommodations for family members who do not live locally.
