Bryn Mawr, PAMain Line Health, its four acute care hospitals and its rehabilitative medicine facility have been honored for their efforts to support and raise awareness about organ, eye, and tissue donation through The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania’s (HAP) 2023 Donate Life Pennsylvania Hospital Challenge.

Main Line Health received a titanium designation — the highest level awarded — on a scorecard for participating systems, as did Bryn Mawr Hospital and Paoli Hospital for participating hospitals. Lankenau Medical Center and Riddle Hospital received a platinum designation, and Bryn Mawr Rehab received a gold designation.

The annual campaign encourages Pennsylvania hospitals to increase organ, eye and tissue donation awareness within their hospitals and communities. Hospitals conducted activities to support donation, such as internal training, meetings, campaigns to register new organ donors, community events and communications.

HAP partnered with the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the two organ procurement organizations serving Pennsylvania — the Center for Organ Recovery & Education and Gift of Life Donor Program — to support the challenge.

“Partnering with organizations focused on organ donation is not just work — it is a calling that touches the heart of everyone involved,” said Jack Lynch, FACHE, President and CEO, Main Line Health. “We are honored to be recognized for our work with the Gift of Life Program. Getting the word out into the community about organ, eye and tissue donation is a first and crucial step. I’m proud of our efforts to provide donations to those for whom it can mean a new start in life, and of how our team members gently handle conversations and give comfort to grieving family members as they make these difficult end-of-life decisions.”

The Main Line Health acute care hospitals were among 107 statewide that participated in this year’s challenge.

“Organ, eye, and tissue donors are critical to helping hospital teams save and improve lives,” said HAP President and CEO Nicole Stallings. “HAP applauds the outstanding work of Pennsylvania hospitals and our partners to support and raise awareness about donation. These efforts reflect hospital teams’ commitment to strengthening the health of their communities.”
