Paoli Hospital announces major expansion to increase capacity and access to care

Paoli Hospital

Five-story addition to strengthen patient care and meet growing community needs.

Paoli, PA — Paoli Hospital, part of Main Line Health, will launch a major campus expansion and modernization designed to increase bed capacity, enhance patient care capabilities and better serve the growing needs of the surrounding community for care that’s close to home.

The planned five-story expansion will include three floors with 108 new inpatient beds, one floor for diagnostics including radiology and perinatal testing, a heliport on the new structure’s roof for trauma patient transportation and 36 private rooms. Each bed will have the capability to be converted into an ICU bed.

"While many communities face declining access to care, Main Line Health is moving forward with optimism, investing in this region's future and reaffirming our commitment to exceptional care where people live and work," said Ed Jimenez, President and CEO, Main Line Health. "The care provided at Paoli Hospital is exceptional, and this project will ensure that our facilities reflect that same standard of excellence for years to come."

The strategic initiative was approved by Main Line Health's Board of Governors late last week to address consistently high patient volumes, particularly within the Emergency Department, where demand continues to exceed current capacity.

"This expansion represents a vital investment in securing the future of Paoli Hospital," said hospital President Yonathan Kebede, MHA, FACHE. "It ensures that our community continues to receive safe, high-quality care while positioning Paoli as a healthcare leader."

Other features of the facility will include:

  • An expanded kitchen and dining area
  • New heating and cooling systems
  • More oxygen tanks
  • New emergency generators
  • Two connecting corridors in the first and second floors to provide easier connectivity to the trauma bays
  • Two additional parking lots to accommodate 100-plus cars, with 23 spaces reserved for ADA parking

The Paoli project is part of Main Line Health efforts to explore opportunities to expand access to care in communities that increasingly rely on its patient care, services and resources. The health system is currently advancing plans for Main Line Health Downingtown, a comprehensive ambulatory site that will bring coordinated, patient‑centered care to Chester County in the summer of 2027.

In addition, plans were recently submitted to the Upper Providence Township Board of Supervisors to explore a potential 500,000-square-foot, five-story hospital building with 108 beds, as well as up to two medical office buildings across from the Main Line Health Collegeville health center.

"While we are still in the early planning stages around Collegeville, this evaluation will help us understand the site's full potential and guide a thoughtful, strategic plan," Jimenez said. "At a time when healthcare access has become more limited in the region, we believe it is important to continue investing in communities that need greater access to high-quality care."
