Paoli Hospital and Riddle Hospital again receive recognition as high-performing for maternity care by U.S. News & World Report

Bryn Mawr, PA — Paoli Hospital and Riddle Hospital, both part of Main Line Health, again have been rated as high-performing for maternity care by U.S. News & World Report in recognition of their quality care in labor and delivery. For Riddle Hospital, it was the third consecutive year being honored; for Paoli Hospital it was the second straight year.
The magazine issues its Best Hospitals for Maternity Care rankings to help expectant mothers and families make informed choices, in consultation with their doctors, about where to have a baby after an uncomplicated pregnancy. The 2024–2025 rankings rely on data provided by hospitals.
“I could not be prouder of the doctors, nurses and support staff at Paoli Hospital and Riddle Hospital,” said Joseph Gobern, MD, MBA, FACOG, chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Main Line Health. “These rankings are a testament to our systematic approach and unwavering commitment to providing safe, high-quality care for mothers and babies. It is particularly gratifying that these rankings acknowledge our dedication to reducing disparities in maternity care for birthing individuals from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds.”
Hospitals rated “Best” for Maternity Care by U.S. News:
- Are 47% more likely to be designated as “Baby-Friendly” by Baby Friendly USA, indicating a hospital has taken important steps to support breastfeeding.
- Have C-section rates 22% lower than maternity care hospitals not recognized by U.S. News.
- Have severe unexpected newborn complication rates 44% lower than maternity care hospitals not recognized by U.S. News.
U.S. News & World Report evaluated an all-time high 817 hospitals that provide labor and delivery services. Just half received a high-performing designation, which is the highest award a hospital can earn in maternity care. The methodology is based entirely on objective measures of quality, such as C-section rates in lower-risk pregnancies, newborn complication rates, exclusive breast milk feeding rates and reporting on racial-ethnic disparities.
