Coordinated prenatal care and rehab for pregnant women

Women who are pregnant and habitually use alcohol and/or drugs face serious health risks to themselves and to their unborn child. Prenatal exposure to addictive substances has a profound effect on the developing life and can result in the baby becoming addicted. For the woman who wants to stop using and enter into recovery, interventions by well-trained medical staff are necessary in order to ensure the best outcomes for mother and child.

Mirmont Treatment Center has partnered with Granite Run OB/GYN Associates in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, in the western suburbs of Philadelphia, to provide health care for mother and child while the mother is in treatment at Mirmont. Regular visits with Granite Run OB/GYN will be part of the course of care prescribed by Mirmont’s medical team and all aspects of treatment will be carefully coordinated and monitored by both medical groups.

Mirmont is one of a few treatment centers in the Philadelphia region that offers pregnant women suffering from substance use disorder the additional medical oversight necessary for safe, effective care. Mirmont has designed a superior clinical program and rehab for pregnant women addicted to alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids and other substances.

Admissions and protocols for substance abuse treatment for pregnant women

Mirmont Treatment Center accepts women who are up to 36 weeks pregnant. Once the initial evaluation has been completed and the patient is admitted to Mirmont, we will begin:

  • A detox protocol for those dependent on alcohol or benzodiazepines
  • A daily Subutex protocol for those dependent on opioids
    • Subutex will be dosed to keep the patient comfortable and without withdrawal symptoms. This medication-assisted treatment (MAT) will be continued throughout the mother’s stay at Mirmont.

Once medically cleared, pregnant women may also participate in Mirmont’s integrative, evidence-based treatment program that includes:

Additionally, Mirmont offers one of the region’s most effective Addiction Trauma Treatment Program, in which we use experiential therapies, psychodrama, and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)—all proven effective methods for the treatment of PTSD and other root causes of psychological and/or emotional trauma and addiction.

At Mirmont we strive to deliver a high-quality treatment program, with a compassionate team in a serene setting, for mother and baby to begin their recovery journey.
