Lankenau Medical Center and Paoli Hospital recognized by Forbes’ new Top Hospitals ratings

Bryn Mawr, PALankenau Medical Center and Paoli Hospital have been named among the top general acute care hospitals in the country in the new Forbes Top Hospital ratings. Both received four out of five stars based on an evaluation that reviews publicly available data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid including clinical outcomes, best practices and patient experience.

Forbes developed this inaugural list to help populations navigate the healthcare system so people are able to make the most informed decisions about the type of care they need.

“We are thrilled to be named as a Top Hospital by Forbes as it’s a reflection of the work our dedicated staff and our physicians at Lankenau engage in every day,” said Barbara Wadsworth, DNP, RN, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and Interim President of Lankenau Medical Center.

Forbes’ methodology identified a number of healthcare quality measures from CMS data that are regularly tested by healthcare leaders in the community to meet rigorous national standards of care. Forbes placed the strongest emphasis on clinical patient outcomes, which accounted for more than half of each hospital’s overall score and received the most weight. This includes measures such as mortality, survival, readmission and infection rates. The ranking also incorporates information related to value and the patient experience. Forbes also statistically adjusted for social drivers of health, such as socioeconomics and access to medical services to provide a more level comparison of each hospital’s quality.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by Forbes as one of the nation's Top Hospitals and a direct testament to the excellence in patient care our staff and physicians deliver,” said Yonathan Kebede, FACHE, President of Paoli Hospital.

Forbes evaluated 2,500 hospitals across the country that met the inclusion criteria, awarding five stars to 253 hospitals — the highest designation a hospital can earn — and four stars to 509 hospitals.

This recognition reflects the safe, high-quality care that colleagues at Lankenau Medical Center and Paoli Hospital provide every day. It also reinforces Main Line Health’s ongoing work to deliver exceptional care close to home for the communities we serve.
