Paoli Hospital ranks first in the nation among Level I and II trauma centers for risk-adjusted mortality rate

Paoli Hospital, part of Main Line Health, ranks first in the nation with the lowest risk-adjusted mortality rate based on data submitted to the American College of Surgeons’ Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP). Published quarterly, over 500 Level I and II trauma programs submit data on trauma patients’ care and outcomes to the TQIP national registry. Data are analyzed to create a statistical model predicting the likelihood of mortality for trauma patients based on their injuries and clinical condition. For the most recent report, Paoli Hospital’s mortality rate was 42% of that predicted by the risk-adjusted model.
