A new name for home of Lankenau Heart Institute cardiac care: Penny and Warren Weiner Heart Pavilion
Donation to fund construction of outpatient cardiac imaging suite with 2 new CT scanners
Wynnewood, PA — The 10-year-old Heart Pavilion, which is home to the Lankenau Heart Institute cardiovascular program, part of Main Line Health, that is perennially ranked among Pennsylvania’s best, now has a new name after a historic donation that will fund a modern imaging suite and other enhancements.
The building was officially renamed the Penny and Warren Weiner Heart Pavilion after a generous gift from one of Lankenau Medical Center’s foremost philanthropists, Penny Weiner, which also honors her late husband.
The initial portion of the gift will fund construction of The Penny Weiner Outpatient Imaging Center, including two new CT scanners on the pavilion’s ground floor. In recent years, CT scans have become more critical to diagnosing coronary heart disease as well as valvular heart disease. The remaining portion will fund various other programmatic, technological, imaging, educational and surgical enhancements as needs arise.
Penny Weiner and her late husband have been involved with philanthropic leadership at Lankenau Medical Center since the late 1970s. This gift, said hospital President Katie Galbraith, MBA, FACHE, is among the most impactful ever received.
“Penny and Warren as a team were philanthropic leaders for Lankenau Medical Center since the late 1970s, and Penny has continued that legacy since her husband’s passing,” Galbraith said. “On behalf of the entire Lankenau Medical Center team, let me express our heartfelt gratitude for this wonderful donation. The number of CT scans performed here for cardiovascular diagnosis has surged more than tenfold in recent years, with demand for more. Because of this gift, we’ll be able to meet that demand.”
Jack Lynch, FACHE, President and CEO, Main Line Health, said the donation will keep Lankenau Heart Institute in a leadership role in the region.
“We take pride in being at the forefront in cardiovascular care, and this gift will do a tremendous amount to keep us there,” Lynch said. “It means more access to CT scans for patients, more state-of-the-art imaging, and faster diagnosis and care. It makes us even more excited about our future.”
Since its launch in its new building in 2013, Lankenau Heart Institute has more than doubled its cardiovascular surgery volume, with U.S. News & World Report ranking it as high-performing in cardiovascular, heart and vascular surgery, including care for aortic valve surgery, heart attack, heart bypass surgery, heart failure and transcatheter aortic valve replacement.
Penny Weiner expressed pleasure at being able to contribute to Lankenau Heart Institute’s success.
“Lankenau Medical Center has meant so much to Warren and me throughout the years,” Penny Weiner said. “Their cardiac care is second to none. I’m glad to do what I can to help the hospital and its patients."
