Paoli Hospital was ranked as the eighth best hospital in the Philadelphia region by U.S. News & World Report, an area that is known across the country and internationally as a hub for health care delivery, research and education. To be continually recognized among the best is a testament to the quality of care that we provide to our patients every day.
In addition to our regional rankings, Paoli Hospital was ranked as high-performing for seven common conditions:

System Magnet® Designation
Main Line Health has received System Magnet® designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the nation's highest award for recognizing excellence in nursing care, which has been awarded to only seven percent of hospitals and 22 health systems in the nation.
Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders designation
Main Line Health hospitals, including Lankenau Medical Center, Bryn Mawr Hospital, Paoli Hospital, Riddle Hospital and Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital, have all received NICHE designation. The NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders) designation indicates an organization’s commitment to elder care excellence by stimulating senior focused-transformation in the culture of health care facilities and achieving patient-centered care for older adults.
Our facility voluntarily underwent a thorough evaluation by The Joint Commission. The goal of the evaluation? To see if our facility meets The Joint Commission’s rigorous performance standards in delivering quality, safe care. By meeting these standards, our facility received The Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval®—an internationally recognized symbol of quality.
Accreditation means that our staff has made an extra effort to review and improve the key areas that can affect the quality and safety of your care. Specially trained health care professionals who are experts in their fields visited this facility to conduct a review that monitors how well our staff: provide a safe environment for your care; educate you about the risks and options for your diagnosis and treatment; protect your rights as a patient; evaluate your condition, before, during and after diagnosis and treatment; protect you against infection; and plan for emergency situations.
Press Ganey Excellence Awards
Paoli Hospital has received the 2017 Press Ganey Pinnacle of Excellence Award in the area of patient experience. This annual award is given to the three top-performing organizations by category on the basis of extraordinary achievement. Paoli Hospital was recognized for maintaining consistently high levels of excellence in patient experience over the past three years.
Paoli Hospital was the recipient of the Press Ganey Pinnacle of Excellence Award in 2016 and previously received the Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award in 2014 and 2015.

2016 Mission: Lifeline — Silver EMS
The American Heart Association recognizes Paoli Hospital with a silver award for achieving 85 percent or higher composite adherence to all Mission: Lifeline STEMI Receiving Center Performance Achievement indicators for consecutive 90-day intervals, 75 percent or higher compliance on all Mission: Lifeline STEMI Receiving Center quality measures to improve the quality of care for STEMI patients.
Get with the Guidelines - Stroke Gold Plus Award
The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get with the Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award recognizes the commitment and success of Paoli Hospital staff in implementing a higher standard of care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted guidelines.
Hospitals receiving these awards must meet quality measures developed to reduce the time between the patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with the clot-buster tissue plasminogen activator, or tPA, the only drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat ischemic stroke.
Critical-Care Nurses’ Beacon Award
Our intensive care unit (ICU) has been awarded the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) gold-level Beacon Award for Excellence while our Progressive Care Unit has been awarded a silver.
National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers
When a breast center achieves accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), it is held to the highest standards of care for patients with diseases of the breast.
A coalition of professional organizations, the NAPBC, works together to provide the most efficient and contemporary breast care using scientific evidence about what works best for patients. NAPBC monitors compliance to standards at each accredited breast center with board leadership from many medical disciplines and upholds nationally recognized quality performance measures for breast cancer treatment.
The NAPBC is administered by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), which for more than 100 years has led national and international initiatives to improve quality in hospitals.
Blue Distinction Centers for maternity and hip and knee replacement
Independence Blue Cross has named Paoli as a Blue Distinction Center in Knee and Hip Replacement and Maternity. The Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care® program is a national designation awarded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies to medical facilities that have demonstrated expertise in delivering quality specialty care—which expanded recently to include more robust quality measures focused on improved patient health and safety.
Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society Accreditation
Paoli Hospital's Wound Healing Center has been certified by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) for its hyperbaric medicine program. The UHMS recognized the Center for its high performance and standards of care, as it demonstrated a commitment to excellent patient care and facility safety.
ACR Breast Imaging Center of Excellence
A facility with this logo has been designated an ACR Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by achieving accreditation in all breast imaging modalities.
Improving the quality and safety of patient care is a core element of the American College of Radiology mission. The College takes a proactive and aggressive approach on key issues impacting radiology.
