Dr. Chaparro was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. He attended medical school at the Escuela Colombiana de Medicina—Universidad El Bosque in Colombia and elected to move to the United States of America to pursue his training in Internal Medicine at the University of Miami, followed by a Fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the University of Chicago. He has been the recipient of multiple awards during his career including the best intern award and best teacher award. He is board certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases. Clinical interests include infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship, infections in immunocompromised hosts, HIV, chronic hepatitis management, neurological infections, and orthopedic infections. He is the chairperson for The Division of Infectious Diseases and the director of the infection prevention and antibiotic stewardship programs at Roxborough Hospital. Outside of work, you can find him spending time with his wife and daughters or riding his bicycle around Pennsylvania—he is a devoted follower of Colombia's favorite sport—cycling.
