Dear Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in the Gastroenterology Fellowship Program at Lankenau Medical Center.

Our fellowship program focuses on the clinical practice of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. We provide an intense clinical curriculum in a supportive academic environment. Our first and second year fellows spend 6 months each year on the inpatient consultation service and our third year fellows have 4 months of in-patient time. Fellows also rotate through Jefferson University Hospital’s inpatient and outpatient liver transplantation services which are top notch.

We also place emphasis on outpatient subspecialty training as the bulk of your practice after fellowship will focus on outpatient medicine. We offer extensive ambulatory elective opportunities which include rotations in inflammatory bowel disease, nutrition, interventional radiology, and bariatric surgery. Our fellows have an extensive endoscopic experience, which includes up to 6 months of ERCP training if desired. They consistently graduate with excellent clinical and endoscopic skills and perform extremely well in practice.

Our curriculum is based on a twice-weekly fellows conference. The curriculum is system-based and covers every GI/Hepato-biliary topic in depth to prepare our fellows for the GI board examination and practice. We invite experts in the field and guest lecturers to participate in conference. We also enrich the curriculum with multi-disciplinary conferences.

While our program does not focus on research, our fellows are encouraged to be involved in clinical research and are required to complete at least one Quality Improvement project. We also have our own Lankenau Institute of Medical Research on site which provides unique research opportunities in basic and translational medicine and valuable resources such as statisticians.

The faculty and program leadership are extremely devoted to and supportive of our fellows. The combination of intense clinical training in an extremely supportive and friendly environment is what makes our program unique and unparalleled.

If you wish to find out more about our application process or have any questions, please contact our Program Coordinator, Kathryn Lattanzio at [email protected] or myself at [email protected].

We look forward to hearing from you!
