About Belonging, Equity and Community

At Main Line Health, our focus is on people, patients and the populations we serve. Through a continuous focus on belonging, inclusion, respect, equity and community, we create environments where individuals feel valued and connected, driving meaningful impact for our people, patients and communities.

This work strengthens our workforce, enhances patient experience and improves patient outcomes. Main Line Health is committed to advancing the health and wellbeing of the communities we serve. We do this by building trust and identifying and eliminating disparities in care.

System Employee Resource Groups and entity-level councils

Our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) at Main Line Health are employee-led groups where members make connections over shared interests, common backgrounds and experiences. These groups build and strengthen our culture of belonging while improving employee and patient experiences and positively impacting the communities we serve. Our system ERGs focus on bringing employees together around cultural and demographic backgrounds and common interests.

Additionally, we have entity-level employee-led councils at each of our hospital sites, corporate offices and ambulatory network. These councils have similar, yet targeted focus for the employees, patients and community members served by location. They often partner with the system ERGs, focusing on employee engagement, enhancing our culture of belonging and contributing to system goals to improve patient care and experience.

Health equity

Every year, Main Line Health hosts its Annual Disparities in Care Colloquium to focus on work done within the system to identify potential disparities of care and to eliminate them. The Colloquium features speakers within Main Line Health and community partners, who are focused on advancing equity internally with our patients and employees in addition to externally with the communities we serve.

Community health and outreach

At Main Line Health, we recognize that our responsibility to improve community health extends beyond the walls of our hospitals. With a data- and person-centered approach focused on eliminating disparities of care, we are able to better understand and address the unique health needs of our communities.

Community Health Needs Assessment

One foundation of the Main Line Health strategic plan is our community health needs assessment (CHNA), which Main Line Health, like most other nonprofit healthcare organizations, must complete every three years.

The community health needs assessment identifies the critical health needs of the communities we serve. The information, when appropriately analyzed, informs our system of significant opportunities to improve the health status and health equity of our communities.

Creating a culture of respect at Main Line Health

At Main Line Health, respect, belonging, iInclusion and equity are woven into the vibrant fabric of who we are as an organization. We are profoundly aware that the diversity within our workforce enriches patient experience and distinguishes us as a high-performing organization.

And just as safety is one of our non-negotiable standards as a hospital health system, so is a culture of respect in which every patient, employee, resident, fellow and visitor at Main Line Health feels valued for who they are.
