Paoli Hospital awarded advanced certification for program to remove blood clots causing stroke
Paoli, PA — Paoli Hospital, part of Main Line Health, has received a prestigious certification for its advanced capability to conduct a procedure to remove blood clots in stroke patients during the crucial hours to give them the best chance at recovery.
Paoli Hospital earned Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Program Certification from The Joint Commission, an independent accrediting organization. The hospital already holds Stroke Certification but received advanced accreditation for thrombectomy, a minimally invasive, catheter-based procedure for retrieving a blood clot from a brain artery. Performing the procedure immediately after a stroke is critical in limiting brain damage and improving recovery — in many cases, completely reversing the stroke. Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with healthcare experts and providers, measurement experts and patients.
“I’m incredibly proud of our team at Paoli for attaining this advanced stroke certification,” said Yonathan Kebede, President of Paoli Hospital. “They rigorously pursued this new certification by working to meet the requirements established by The Joint Commission and were well prepared during the site visit. This recognition is another testament to our commitment to safe, high-quality patient care and being at the forefront of stroke treatment.”
“Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Program Certification recognizes healthcare organizations committed to striving for excellence and fostering continuous improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” said Ken Grubbs, DNP, MBA, RN, executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing officer, The Joint Commission. “We commend Paoli Hospital for using The Joint Commission certification process to reduce variation in clinical processes and to strengthen its clinical program to drive safer, higher quality and more compassionate care for individuals served.”
“We congratulate Paoli Hospital for this outstanding achievement,” said Nancy Brown, chief executive officer, the American Stroke Association. “This certification reflects its commitment to providing the highest quality of care for stroke patients.”
