All four Main Line Health acute care hospitals receive an A for patient safety in Spring 2023 Leapfrog report
Grade reflects top national performance despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic
Bryn Mawr, PA — Main Line Health’s four acute care hospitals — Lankenau Medical Center, Bryn Mawr Hospital, Paoli Hospital, and Riddle Hospital — each received a Hospital Safety Grade of A from The Leapfrog Group for Spring 2023. This national distinction celebrates Main Line Health’s achievements in prioritizing patient safety by protecting patients from preventable harm and errors. The new grades primarily reflect performance during the height of the pandemic.
“We are honored to be recognized across all four of our acute care hospitals with this top grade of A,” said Jack Lynch, CEO and President, Main Line Health. “This prestigious recognition belongs to each and every one of our Main Line Health staff members who provide safe, high-quality and equitable care on a daily basis. Their commitment to the safety of our patients, their families and to all those who choose Main Line Health is reflected in this achievement and helps us to deliver on our promise of human care.”
The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns letter grades to roughly 2,600 general acute care hospitals nationwide based on more than 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems that hospitals have in place to prevent harm. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
“This new update of Hospital Safety Grades shows that, at the national level, we saw deterioration in patient safety with the pandemic,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “But these hospitals received an A despite those challenges. I congratulate all the leaders, staff, volunteers and clinicians who together made that possible.”
