Main Line Health supports young transgender and gender-diverse patients and families in accessing gender-affirming care.
Radnor, PA – The treatment of transgender youth has recently been the focus of national attention as a result of an executive order issued by the Governor of Texas that defines gender-affirming care and support of transgender and gender-diverse youth as child abuse. Currently, there is no similar legislation being considered in PA at this time. Main Line Health supports young transgender and gender-diverse patients and families in accessing comprehensive, gender-affirming and developmentally appropriate health care. Research shows gender-affirming care improves the health and overall well-being of children and youth when families and medical professionals work together to determine the best treatment and management. Further evidence supports gender-affirming care in the forms of social transitions, change of name and pronouns and the use of medical interventions for transgender youth who have been properly assessed for and diagnosed with gender dysphoria. A comprehensive health care team plays a central role in advancing the health of all children including trans and gender-diverse youth.
Main Line Health provides a safe environment where LGBTQ patients, families and visitors can expect inclusive care from a welcoming health system at locations throughout the suburbs of Philadelphia. The hospital system provides youth and their families with the support they need to live as their affirmed gender while working to reduce any long-lasting harm to youth in distress. Main Line Health offers free support groups for both teens and for parents and/or caregivers of trans and gender-diverse youth with the understanding that the best health outcomes require families, caregivers and the patient care team to continue to communicate openly and without fear of legal repercussion.
Main Line Health is committed to supporting our transgender and gender-diverse communities by offering the highest level of comprehensive care available.
