Dr. Reel is a board-certified general surgeon who has been on the surgical team at Paoli Hospital since 2017. He specializes in robotic and advanced laparoscopic surgery and opts for a minimally invasive approach to surgery whenever it is possible and appropriate for a patient. Dr. Reel evaluates and treats a wide range of diseases and conditions that may require the care of a surgeon. This includes colon cancer and benign (noncancerous) disorders of the colon such as diverticulitis, hernias that occur anywhere in the abdomen or pelvis, gallstones, appendicitis, stomach ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding, and nonhealing or chronic wounds—to name just a few. Dr. Reel also manages patients who come to the Paoli Hospital emergency department needing urgent surgical assessment or treatment for an acute abdominal condition. Dr. Reel received his medical degree from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. After a surgical internship at the Keesler Air Force Base Hospital in Mississippi, he completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School of Osteopathic Medicine. He then served for 3 years in the United States Air Force as a staff surgeon at the Mountain Home Air Force Base Hospital in Idaho and, during deployment to Iraq, at Balad Air Base. Dr. Reel entered surgical practice in 2006 and was a staff surgeon at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon before joining the surgical team at Paoli Hospital.
