Stroke touches the lives of many of our friends and neighbors every day. Did you know that stroke is the third leading cause of death in Southeastern Pennsylvania? This is higher than the national average which means our community is more likely to be touched by stroke than in other areas of the country. Nationally and locally, stroke is the leading cause of disability and can result in paralysis, impaired memory, problems controlling movement, or difficulty using language.
Paoli Hospital is entering a new era in its ability to treat complex neurological diseases like stroke. Philanthropic support from the community is what makes these types of advancements in health care possible. A gift in support of Paoli Hospital’s new Neurointerventional Program will be directly invested in the latest life-saving equipment for stroke patients, while helping to advance neurological care and neurosurgical services across our region.
Since up to two million brain cells die each minute once a stroke begins, time is crucial for a stroke patient. With this program, fewer patients will be transferred out of our community for stroke care and Paoli Hospital will be well-positioned to provide more complex cranial surgical procedures, save more lives, and help many stroke patients experience fuller recoveries.
