The Lankenau Medical Center family medicine residency program complies with the curriculum requirements outlined in the AOA Basic Standards for Residency Training in Osteopathic Family Medicine and Manipulative Treatment.

OGME 1 requirements

  • Emergency medicine: four weeks
  • Internal medicine: eight weeks
  • Women’s health: four weeks
  • Pediatrics and adolescent medicine: four weeks
  • Surgery: four weeks

OGME 2 and OGME 3 requirements

  • Emergency medicine: four weeks
  • Internal medicine: 24 weeks
  • Women’s health: eight weeks
  • Pediatrics and adolescent medicine: 12 weeks
  • Surgery: 16 weeks
  • Geriatrics: 100 hours or one month

Training also includes

  • Continuity of care
  • Osteopathic manipulative medicine
  • Inpatient medicine
  • Behavioral medicine
  • Practice management: 20 hours
  • Sports medicine: 50 hours or two weeks
  • Diagnostic imaging
  • Procedural medicine
  • Community medicine: 50 hours or two weeks
  • Electives: 20 weeks
  • Disease prevention and wellness
  • Patient safety and quality improvement

The AOA requires that internal medicine training shall include the following sub-specialties

  • Allergy and immunology
  • Cardiology
  • Dermatology
  • Endocrinology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Hematology
  • Nephrology
  • Neurology
  • Oncology
  • Pulmonology
  • Rheumatology
