Dr. Raj Thirumaran joined Consultants in Medical Oncology and Hematology in June 2008. Dr. Thirumaran completed his medical training at the Coimbatore Medical College, and after training in various hospitals in Scotland and England, obtained his Membership with the Royal College of Physicians of London -MRCP(UK) in 1999.
He then trained in Medical Oncology at the North Middlesex University Hospital in London and served as a Staff Medical Oncologist at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in Norwich, England. During this time he actively participated in various landmark cancer trials, namely the Mosaic Trial in Colon Cancer and the Big Lung Trial.
In 2001 Dr. Thirumaran started his career in the United States. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Lankenau Hospital, and then continued working there as an Academic Hospitalist. In 2005, he was voted Best Teaching Attending Physician by the Medical Residents.
While completing a fellowship in Medical Oncology and Hematology at Lankenau Hospital, Dr. Thirumaran did research in breast cancer. This research was published at the American Society of Clinical Oncology meeting in Chicago in June 2008.
Dr. Thirumaran is board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Oncology and Hospice and Palliative medicine. He is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and is a peer reviewer for the Journal of the Society of General Internal Medicine. He has also authored a book chapter on cancer chemotherapy. He has been voted as a Top Doc in Oncology - Main Line Today 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015.
