Main Line Health hospitals receive Mission: Lifeline Gold Receiving Achievement Awards

Main Line Health July 26, 2019 News Releases

Main Line Health is only health system in the region to achieve Gold recognition

All four of Main Line Health’s acute care hospitals—Lankenau Medical Center, Bryn Mawr Hospital, Paoli Hospital and Riddle Hospital—have independently received the Mission: Lifeline® Quality Achievement Awards for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association for the treatment of patients who suffer severe heart attacks. Lankenau Medical Center received the Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award, and Bryn Mawr, Paoli and Riddle hospitals received the Gold Quality Achievement Award. Main Line Health is the only health system in the region to achieve this recognition.

“Main Line Health and Lankenau Heart Institute are dedicated to improving the quality of care for our patients who suffer a heart attack. The AHA’s Mission: Lifeline program is helping us accomplish that goal through nationally established clinical guidelines and benchmarks,” said John Mitchell, system director, Main Line Health Cardiovascular Services and Lankenau Heart Institute.

The American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline program’s goal is to reduce system barriers to prompt treatment for heart attacks, beginning with the 9-1-1 call, to EMS transport and continuing through hospital treatment and discharge. The initiative provides tools, training and other resources to support heart attack care following protocols from the most recent evidence-based treatment guidelines.

William Gray, MD, system chief, cardiovascular diseases, and president, Lankenau Heart Institute, added: “It is an honor for all of our hospitals to receive this award in recognition of our dedication and achievements in cardiac care. We are incredibly proud of our teams and the work of our EMS providers who are on the front lines, ensuring patients are receiving timely initial diagnoses and treatments before they reach the hospital.”

Main Line Health earned the award by meeting specific criteria and standards of performance for quick and appropriate treatment through emergency procedures to re-establish blood flow to blocked arteries in heart attack patients coming into the hospital directly or by transfer from another facility.

“We commend Main Line Health for following evidence-based guidelines for timely heart attack treatment,” said Tim Henry, MD, chair of the Mission: Lifeline Acute Coronary Syndrome Subcommittee. “We applaud the significant institutional commitment to their critical role in the system of care for quickly and appropriately treating heart attack patients.”
