Main Line Health hospitals are top performers in new CMS overall quality star ratings

Main Line Health March 12, 2019 News Releases

Main Line Health hospitals were rated as top performers in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ new Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating, released this week. The overall rating shows how well each hospital performed, on average, compared to other hospitals in the U.S. The overall rating ranges from one to five stars. The more stars, the better a hospital performed on the available quality measures.

Main Line Health hospitals received the following ratings:

  • Lankenau Medical Center – 5 stars
  • Bryn Mawr Hospital – 5 stars
  • Paoli Hospital – 5 stars
  • Riddle Hospital – 4 stars

Lankenau, Bryn Mawr and Paoli were three of only 11 hospitals in the state to receive a five on the Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating.

“Main Line Health’s performance in the CMS ratings continually represents our commitment to excellence and constant performance improvement,” said Eileen Jaskuta, system vice president of safety and quality, Main Line Health. “Our multidisciplinary team approach to high-quality patient care has proven to be one of the most critical factors in achieving these superior ratings.”

The report summarizes data from up to 57 quality measures across seven categories: mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, effectiveness of care, timeliness of care and efficient use of medical imaging. These measures are publicly reported on Hospital Compare into a single star rating for each hospital, making it easier for consumers to compare hospitals and interpret complex quality information. For information about the ratings, visit the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Hospital Compare site.
