About Peter D. LeRoux, MD, FACS

Dr. Le Roux is a Board-certified neurosurgeon. After earning a medical degree and doctorate in neuroscience from the University of Cape Town in South Africa, Dr. Le Roux completed a residency in neurosurgery at the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Le Roux’s neurosurgery training included clinical work at Atkinson Morley Hospital in London, England, and research at École Normale Supérieure in Paris, France.

Dr. Le Roux’s clinical practice covers the spectrum of neurosurgery, including management of spinal disorders, cerebrovascular disease, brain and pituitary tumors, spine tumors, skull base disorders, head injury/concussion, and peripheral nerve disorders. Areas of expertise include use of advanced microsurgical and robotic techniques in the operating room, application of multimodality monitoring to enhance patient outcomes, management of sports-related neurosurgical disorders, and use of “bloodless” surgical techniques for patients who do not wish to receive blood transfusions.

Dr. Le Roux is an internationally known specialist in brain metabolism and monitoring in the neurocritical care setting. He has authored guidelines for management of traumatic brain injury for the Neurocritical Care Society’s Emergency Neurological Life Support and for the International Olympic Committee’s Manual of Sports Injuries. Since 2002, Dr. Le Roux has given more than 190 invited lectures in 15 countries and published more than 170 manuscripts in peer-reviewed scientific journals. He also is coeditor of Management of Cerebral Aneurysms and Monitoring in Neurocritical Care and section editor for Youman's Neurological Surgery (textbooks of neurosurgery). Dr. Le Roux was recognized on the U.S. News & World Report Top Doctors List for 2012.
