I was raised in rural Texas on a ranch. Hard work, integrity, honesty and respect for others were ingrained in me from the very beginning. I attended the University of Texas at Austin, where I received an honors Liberal Arts degree, and completed an additional major in chemistry; I graduated with highest honors, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa while there. I attended the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas, where I obtained my MD. I was also elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society while there. I moved to Philadelphia in 1998 to begin my residency at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in Pediatrics. I stayed at CHOP for my fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology. After fellowship, I was an attending physician at CHOP for a time, and then moved to Nemours where I am primarily based. From an oncologic perspective, I specialize in lymphoma, soft tissue sarcomas, and bone tumors. I am very active in treating children in the HLH community (hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis). From a hematology point of view, I specialize in coagulopathies, clotting, and post stroke hematologic management. I speak Spanish fluently, and have some ability in French as well.
