Practice Philosophy

I have practiced psychiatry for 29 years and embrace an eclectic philosophy: I will use whatever type of treatment or combination of treatments that best serve the needs of the patient. I do psychodynamic psychotherapy, supportive therapy and use cognitive-behavioral strategies all either alone or in combination with psychopharmacology, dependent on the situation of the patient. I very much enjoy using therapy and medication together, and spend time with my patients, often getting to know them and their families at times, very well, over an extended period of time. I am a believer in wellness strategies as well and often recommend things like mindfulness meditation, exercise and other non-medication strategies to deal with psychiatric issues, in conjunction with the treatments listed above.
