2013 Riddle Pro-Am Golf Classic to Benefit ED Expansion

Thursday, August 01, 2013

Committee members, (L-R): Rich Wood, Tom Bruder, Gary Perecko, Theresa Murtagh, and Don Saleski worked on Riddle Hospital 31st Annual Pro-Am Golf Classic plans at a recent ED Capital Campaign Committee meeting.

(Media, PA) Riddle Hospital will host the 31st Annual Pro-Am Golf Classic at DuPont Country Club on Sept. 12, 2013 to benefit the Emergency Department Expansion Campaign. PGA Teaching Professionals and celebrity guests will join the Fivesome Scramble including breakfast, BBQ Lunch, skill prizes, hole-in-one automobile prize, a dinner reception and more. Veteran Flyers are also part of the fun thanks to Board Member, Don Saleski, a former Flyer, who brings together his best friends for a day to support Riddle Hospital. Serving on the ED Expansion Campaign Committee, Saleski is excited about the future of Riddle and what a new ED will mean for patients in the community. “The residents of our community will benefit from the new ED when it opens in 2014,” he said, “I have lived in Media for 38 years and it’s an honor to be asked to lead an effort like this.” The new Emergency Department will feature a Rapid Evaluation Unit (REU) and provide private, enclosed treatment rooms for acute care cases. The new ED will have the most up-to-date, life-saving medical equipment for patients in a space double the size of the existing department. The total cost of the project is $15 million with The Riddle HealthCare Foundation focused on raising $7.5 million with support from the business community, patients, physicians, employees and community supporters.

The Wilmington, DE site has become a favorite for participants; drawing benefactors, board members, physicians and hospital staff together to enjoy a day on the links for a good cause. More than $700,000 has been raised in the past decade at the annual event, and with this year’s goal of $80,000, the focus will be to get teams filled and sponsorships lined up. While planning during the summer months, golf committee members Tom Bruder, Don Guthrie, Dan Kennedy, Eileen McAnally, Theresa Murtagh, Gary Perecko, Don Saleski, John Unangst, Sue Walsh and Rich Wood have designed creative opportunities for sponsorships.
