Riddle Hospital employee, Annette Pierdomenico, RNC-OB, MSN, CBCN passed the Certified Breast Care Nurse (CBCN) Examination administered in December 2012, testing her knowledge to practice competently within the specialty of breast care, including cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment, as well as survivorship and end of life care. CBCN is recognized as the only nationally accredited breast care certification that is available exclusively to registered nurses, validating the specialized knowledge necessary for breast care nursing practices along the continuum of care. While studying for her certification, Pierdomenico compiled 1,000 hours in the field with patients, 10 hours of continuing education in the specialty, and continued her full time job as Riddle Comprehensive Breast Center’s full time navigator for breast cancer patients. The test was 165 questions that took just under 3 hours to complete, and Annette had her results within 15 minutes – she passed!
“My success with the testing is credited to the opportunities I have to
learn from my patients’ journeys, the great education at Neumann for my
Masters in Nursing Education and collaborative work with Riddle Hospital
and Main Line Health colleagues each month. My years at Riddle starting
in the Step Down Unit, moving to Obstetrics, then Pain Management, the
Medical Procedure Unit, then as an Obstetrics Perinatal Educator and now
Navigator, have all been wonderful learning opportunities for me to
provide quality care to patients and their families,” said Pierdomenico.
Pierdomenico is a member of the Clinical Adjunct Faculty at Widener
University, Vice President of the Alumni Board of Neumann University,
Co-Pres. of the employee auxiliary at Riddle, coaches CYO Volleyball at
St. Joe’s in Aston and parent to Alyssa, Katie and Nicole.
