(Wynnewood, Pa.) June, 2010— Lankenau Medical Center officially opened its new state-of-the-art Comprehensive Breast Center at a ribbon cutting celebration on June 16. The Center provides a full spectrum of integrated clinical and support services from screening and diagnosis to treatment and counseling and stands at the forefront of breast health, research and treatment.
Under the medical direction of breast surgeon Jennifer Sabol, MD, a dedicated team of cancer specialists at Lankenau backs the Breast Center's coordinated approach to breast health, including a team of highly qualified specialists, a Breast Care Coordinator, imaging specialists and oncology specialists.
"We have made a commitment to offer women the latest in technology to diagnose breast cancer as early as possible and we try hard to give our patients detailed information as quickly as possible” explained Dr. Sabol. “When a patient knows what she is dealing with and has a plan of attack for treatment as well as a comprehensive breast cancer support team behind her all the way, the patient gains a sense of control,” she said.
The Breast Center's technology offers the latest technological advances for breast cancer detection including digital mammography with computer-aided detection; high resolution ultrasound that provides superior detail for a more accurate and complete analysis of breast abnormalities; and breast MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), a highly sensitive tool used to further define imaging abnormalities or palpable masses in select patients. High-risk patients may also benefit by utilizing MRI as a screening tool.
The Comprehensive Breast Center is a culmination of Lankenau Medical Center’s commitment to clinical expertise, groundbreaking research and medical education to ensure a superior patient experience as well as the most advanced breast diagnostic and treatment options for Philadelphia area patients.
