The Family of John S. McManus, Inc. to be Honored at Man O’War Gala

(Media, Pa.) — The Associated Auxiliaries of Riddle Hospital will host their 51st Man O’War Gala on Saturday, April 10th honoring The Family of John S. McManus, Inc. The event will be held at The Springfield Country Club from 6:30 p.m. until midnight. Music by The Philly Horn Band and an outstanding Silent Auction will round out the festivities.

This year’s special tribute to The Family of John S. McManus, Inc. honors the parents, siblings and also all the employees who work for the company. The McManus history began with Patricius McManus in the late 19th century when he worked on the railroads and canals that helped open the industrial age in America. He began his career at age 19 as a pioneer contractor in the railroad business building the Philadelphia terminal system of tracks at the Broad Street Station of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Then Leo P. McManus, his son, after graduating from college in the early 20th century, worked with his father in the business. The next son, John Staley McManus, a ‘44 graduate of Villanova with a degree in Civil Engineering, served in WWII as assistant to the Commander of Naval Construction and then joined McManus Realty in the 1950’s. He moved on to work in Foley-McManus Construction in the 1960’s. It was in 1967 that John S. McManus, Inc. was officially incorporated with John, Sr. as the Director/Founder. The mantle has now been passed on to his three sons — John, Jr. President, Mike, Vice President and Mark, Secretary.

Proceeds from the Man O’War Gala will support and benefit the Auxiliary’s $1 million pledge for the hospital’s planned Emergency Department renovations. As a very much-appreciated gesture on the part of The McManus Family, there will be a scholarship fund created in their name for Riddle employees who desire to further their education in the field of healthcare.
