(Malvern, Pa.)—Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital was the recipient of a $5,000 grant from Subaru of America, Inc. in support of the hospital’s Cruisin’ Not Boozin’ community education program. Cruisin’ Not Boozin’ is in its 20th year and has earned many awards for bringing teenagers and young adults face-to-face with the devastating consequences of driving under the influence.
Subaru of America, Inc. is a long-time sponsor of Cruisin’ Not Boozin’ and proceeds from this year’s grant will be used to offset the cost of the program, which features presentations by survivors of accidents involving drinking and driving. The survivors sustained life-changing injuries as a result of the accidents and tell their stories of survival.
Cruisin’ Not Boozin’ has reached out to more than 400,000 students since it began in 1989. It is offered at middle schools, high schools, colleges and adult community programs. “As young people make new friends at school and begin to drive, it is important to remind them of the life-altering and often deadly consequences drinking and driving can have,” said Carole Flounders, who coordinated 100-plus Cruisin’ Not Boozin’ presentations last year.
Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital developed the Cruisin’ Not Boozin’ program as part of its mission to educate and prevent injuries. For more information on Cruisin’ Not Boozin’ contact Carole Flounders at 610-251-5465 or visit www.brynmawrrehab.org.
