Claude B. Kershner, Jr. |
The Heart Gala will begin with cocktails at 6:30 pm followed by dinner and a silent and live auction. The Pro-Am Golf Tournament sponsored by Piazza Auto Group will be played on the White Manor golf course in the morning with breakfast buffet and registration at 9:30 am and shotgun start at 11 am.
This year's Sensations of the Heart Gala will pay tribute to Claude B. Kershner, Jr., who will receive the 2005 Main Line Health Heart Center Distinguished Service Award. Kershner and his wife, Mary Ellen, are supporters of the Main Line Health Heart Center and the Main Line Community as a whole.
Kershner's many civic and community activities included serving for many years as commissioner and treasurer for Lower Merion Township, as president of the Main Line Junior Chamber of Commerce, as a board member for the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Program, and as a Eucharistic Minister at Saint Matthias of Bala Cynwyd.
In 1960, Kershner purchased a small retail stationery store in Philadelphia. Along with his wife, and six of their eight children who joined the business, the company grew to annual sales of more than $41 million when CB Kershner was sold in 1996.
His greatest testimony comes from his wife of 53 years and his children. When asked what they would want people to know about their Dad, they respond: "He is a great leader because he is selfless and has the ability to make everyone feel valued and appreciated. Dad is truly one of the one of the most honorable gentlemen we have ever known."
