Side effects of chemotherapy are different for everyone. They depend on what drugs you take. Your medical oncologist and chemotherapy nurse will discuss possible side effects with you before your treatment begins. It is important to tell your doctor about any side effects you experience. This will help make your treatment as comfortable as possible.
Here are some common side effects that can occur with chemotherapy. Ask your doctor which ones are the most likely to happen to you.
Bruising or bleeding
Depression or anxiety
Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
Numbness or tingling in the hands or feet
The following side effects are rare, but can occur as a result of treatment for your cancer.
Another type of cancer
Many of these side effects can be controlled. Most gradually disappear between treatments or after the treatment is complete. If you are having side effects, ask your doctor about new drugs that can help reduce the side effects of chemotherapy.
