Approximately 250 men, women and teens from throughout the local community enjoy the positive experience of volunteering at Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital. Our volunteers are students, parents and grandparents, working professionals and retirees from all walks of life.
Volunteering is rewarding, enjoyable and a great way to meet other people. Some of our volunteers are former patients that have established strong bonds with other volunteers, patients and staff and have formed lasting friendships that they enjoy both inside and outside the hospital environment.
Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital offers a number of volunteering opportunities covering a wide range of activities, from patient assistance to administrative needs. So whatever your interest, talents or skills we can find the fit that works for you. In addition, we offer unique opportunities including but not limited to:
Pet-Assisted Therapy - Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital uses more than two dozen dogs who assist our therapists. If you have a dog you feel could help a therapist motivate patients to higher achievement, this might be an excellent opportunity for you. Certifications are required.
Horticultural Center - Our Horticulture Center which includes a greenhouse, pond, gazebo and outdoor gardens is a wonderful setting where patients can undergo therapy from any one of the disciplines offered at Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital. Through the use of plants, flower arranging, and planting patient’s therapies are inviting and vibrant with greenery. Our volunteers help in all these areas.
Gift Shop - Bryn Mart Gifts the hospital’s Gift Shop is a must see. The shop sells a variety of items with a little something for everyone. Our volunteers who serve as Sales Associates process and generate sales. The proceeds from the gift shop support patient programs. The shop operates: 10:30 am – 6 pm, Monday – Friday, 10:30 am – 5 pm, Saturday and 1 pm – 5 pm on Sunday.
Performers – We welcome volunteers with musical talents to perform for our patients during lunch (12 pm – 1 pm) and dinner (5 pm – 6 pm). The soothing sound of music playing in the background is a great way for the patients to relax after a long day of therapy. There is a piano available in the Patient Dining Room however you are welcome to bring your own instrument.
Shadowing opportunities are available in a variety of disciplines. Each opportunity is handled on an individual basis. For more information and for details on the Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital Shadowing Program please contact the Volunteer Department at 484-596-5599.
Organizations in the community are invited to help with seasonal and special/service projects. We can accommodate large groups with advance notice and coordination of age appropriate tasks. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to learn about your organization and for you to learn more about Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital.
Our volunteers can enjoy the therapeutic waters of Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital’s heated pool. The pool is available to volunteers on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8 am – 9 am. Physician’s clearance required.
Every year Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital celebrates National Volunteer Week with an appreciation luncheon to honor its dedicated volunteers with recognitions and awards.
Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital welcomes anyone 14 years of age and older to join our Volunteer Team. Our Junior Volunteer Program is available for high schools students with opportunities for helping after school. Junior Volunteers are asked to commit to a two hour shift at least one day a week.
Adult volunteers are asked to committee to a three hour shift at least one day a week.
