Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital has an innovative Outpatient Spinal Cord Disorders Program that focuses on the individual needs of each patient. We provide a continuum of care including acute inpatient programs, outpatient services, a follow-up clinic, community re-entry services and support groups. Our comprehensive program of care ensures our clients receive individualized treatment based on their injury and their personal needs.

Physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, psychology, care management and other services are provided based on our assessment of each patients individual needs.

Results

Functional outcomes

The Outpatient Spinal Cord Disorders Program was developed to meet the unique needs of clients with spinal cord injury and disorders. The care provided helps clients achieve their individual goals, which often include returning to meaningful, productive and healthy lives.

Result: 54% of our clients met the goal of returning to work, school or volunteer activities at discharge.

A unique strength of the Outpatient Spinal Cord Disorders Program is its focus on improving functional independence, increasing activity tolerance and promoting life-long health maintenance. The program also focuses on community re-integration and return to work, driving, and leisure activities.

Result: 67% demonstrated increased independence and autonomy at discharge.

A medical interruption occurs when a patient is unable to complete their prescribed course of outpatient therapy due to a medical issue.

Result: 37% of patients had their rehabilitation program interrupted by a medical issue. 7% of patients had unplanned transfers to acute care.

Satisfaction and access

Patient satisfaction is routinely measured at Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital for all inpatient and outpatient programs. Results are used to facilitate program improvement and to change our menu of services as needed.

Result: 100% of clients would recommend Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital to others. 100% of clients were satisfied with their progress in the Outpatient Spinal Cord Disorders Program.

We work hard to provide fast and easy access to all of our programs. Scheduling a first appointment can be influenced by many things such as patient preference and conflicting appointments.

Result: The time frame from patient call to first appointment is generally 16 business days.
