I have always focused by practice on understanding the whole patient rather than simply a diagnosis. These additional details of a patient's life help to formulate a more personal diagnostic and treatment plan that meets both of our expectations. I strongly believe in patient autonomy in their care as long as I have communicated how relevant studies and guidelines apply to their situation. Collaboration is the key to best outcomes.
I am a western Philly suburbs native born and raised in Newtown Square where I spent many afternoons delivering the Evening Bulletin to neighborhoods that are now part of my catchment area for Cardiology care. My training after Penn State was all done in Philadelphia in the Drexel Med system (MCP and then Hahnemann) for medical school, residency and then cardiology with special training in cardiac arrhythmias. My entire private practice career has been at Bryn Mawr and Lankenau Hospitals where I launched the Arrhythmia Service at Bryn Mawr for complex heart rhythm management 25 years ago. The tremendous progress in heart rhythm understanding and treatment has been delivered to the local community here with great success in giving patients the ability to keep all of their care locally without the need for the inconvenience of traveling to referral centers.
