Joseph M. Ardito, MD

Independent Provider
Headshot of Joseph M. Ardito, MD

After years of diagnosing and treating patients with many disorders of the Head & Neck, I find that most times patients can be effectively diagnosed simply by listening to them. That is not to say that modern diagnostic tools are unnecessary, but they actually function mainly to confirm a diagnosis, while the patient actually tells me the diagnosis. Experience has allowed me to develop a long list of treatment options that permits me to select the most effective option for each individual. There are many ways to treat, most of which are quite simple, reserving the most complex invasive options for those few patients that truly need the most help. Physicians are not simply healers. We are also teachers, showing our patients the way toward years of predictable wellness. These are the tools that, in tandem, with our learned ongoing technical skills have the most lasting impact on our patients for years to come.

About

Joseph M. Ardito, MD

During my early years I had envisioned myself becoming a marine biologist, having spent some time at the National Oceanographic Institute, but then completed my medical education both here in Philadelphia, followed by my residency and specialty training in Chicago. I returned to Philadelphia in 1981 and have been in private and group practice for the last 35 years, having been on staff at many suburban and 2 University Hospitals. Since my training was strong in both Head and Neck Cancer Surgery and Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, my practice headed in that direction, as well. As time has gone by my interests have also included managing chronic sinusitis, sleep apnea, and modern approaches in treating chronic tonsillitis. I have been fortunate to have several colleagues that I have collaborated with for many years, keeping a broad foresight on how to treat patients whose needs required skills and experiences that complimented my own. I have had ongoing interest in the aquatic world, both fishing and vacationing in Canada for many years, and also having had a business designing and building aquaria, ponds and other water designs. After having to deal with end stage kidney disease several years back, I was given the gift of life through a kidney transplant 2 years ago, having undergone a true rebirth. I can honestly say that the experience of being both a patient and a health care provider have broadened up my viewpoint of life as both a human being and a physician.
