radiology services PhiladelphiaInterventional Radiology: Treating Major Diseases Without Major Surgery

Paoli Hospital in the Philadelphia suburbs now offers the most advanced technology available to diagnose and treat complex medical conditions without major surgery. Our dedicated Interventional Radiology Suite houses Philadelphia area's most sophisticated and technologically superior imaging system providing enhanced diagnosis, treatment planning and improved therapeutic interventions. The system's high level of quality and detailed images offers patients safe, effective alternatives to surgery.

What is Interventional Radiology?
Interventional radiology combines the technology of powerful imaging equipment with the skill of specially trained physicians who guide narrow tubes or catheters and other very small instruments through blood vessels and other pathways to the precise location of a problem. These procedures require only a small incision which benefits patients by causing less pain, less risk, less surgical scarring, resulting in a shorter recovery period than with traditional surgery. Most procedures are performed on an outpatient basis.

Major Conditions Now Easily Treated
Our fully digital system enables physicians to capture and view detailed 3-D images resulting in faster and more accurate diagnosis and treatment of common conditions including:

  • Peripheral vascular disease
  • Uterine fibroid tumors
  • Carotid artery disease
  • Varicose veins
  • Deep vein thrombosis
  • Vertebral compression fractures

Patients benefit from the speed and superior image accuracy of this new imaging system. They are out of the procedure room faster and on their way to recovery and discharge much sooner. This also means less radiation exposure for patients. The multi-functional system can be used for procedures such as:

  • Arteriography
  • Stenting
  • Balloon angioplasty
  • Vertebroplasty
  • Embolization

Only at Paoli
Paoli Hospital is proud to be the first hospital in Chester County, and one of the few in the Philadelphia region to offer advanced 3-D imaging in a dedicated Interventional Radiology Suite. Here our trained specialists have access to incredible imaging technology to perform a wide range of treatments, many on an outpatient basis with a higher success rate.
