We Give You The Tools You Need to Control Your Diabetes and Improve the Quality of Your Life

The Diabetes Management Program at Paoli Hospital is designed to help you take charge of your health by learning about diabetes and about the importance of controlling your insulin and blood sugar level. Our goal is to keep you as healthy and active as possible and minimize potential complications.

Our program is designed for individuals with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes, and includes:

  • Individual consultations with a diabetes nurse specialist or diabetes dietician specialist
  • A 10-hour course in diabetes management. Both day and evening classes are offered.
  • Support groups and other resources

A ten-year research study completed by the National Institute of Health proved that good blood glucose control prevents or delays many of the complications of diabetes.

Education
Our individual consults and group classes are taught by nurses and dieticians who are certified Diabetes Educators. Specific topics include:

  • What is diabetes?
  • Measuring your own blood sugar
  • Meal planning
  • Using exercise to control your diabetes
  • Medication management
  • Stress management
  • Avoiding complications

Controlling diabetes is ultimately your responsibility. We can provide you with the information and skills necessary to take on that responsibility with confidence. We've helped countless individuals with diabetes live healthy, active, productive lives.

Registration
Pre-registration is required to participate in the program. Most insurance companies will pay for all or part of the cost of the program. We'll help you submit a claim to your insurance company to cover the program fee, although coverage benefits vary.

Classes are conveniently held at Paoli Hospital, the Main Line Health Center in Collegeville and ACAC Fitness and Wellness Center in West Chester. For more information or to register for the program, please call the Diabetes Management Program at Paoli Hospital at 610-560-8020.

Some of Our Success Stories

"The nutrition classes were very good and helped me a lot."  -- Shelley, Coatesville, PA

"My wife's support with diet has allowed me to cut my meds and bring my diabetes under control."  -- Glenn, Chester Springs, PA

"The caring and very competent staff helped me to understand the cause and possible complications of diabetes, how to manage it using diet, exercise, and medication. Most importantly after the individual counseling session with a dietitian, I was able to set up a workable plan to fit my life style and needs. I came away from the program understanding the disease and able to manage it on my own, knowing that ongoing support was available it I needed it."  -- Joanna, Malvern, PA

"I have lost over 30 pounds. I feel great. I wish I had been offered this program before I was diagnosed with diabetes."  -- Elizabeth R., Berwyn, PA

"I am so glad I decided to take the Diabetes Management classes at Paoli Hospital. In the past 15 years, I have been to quite a few different ones but never really understood what I should be doing. The classes by Betty Colletta, RN, were very instructive and the time spent on nutrition by Bobbie Mearns, RD, was well worth my time to drive 40 minutes to the hospital. I have been calculating my food intake as directed and have found my numbers for my sugars have come down. In my opinion, Paoli has the best hospital, doctors, and nurses as well as dietitians! Keep Going!" -- Sue, Royersford, PA

"I lost 20 pounds in four months with the direction, help, and easy-to-follow diet of nutritionist Chris Hurley. I have more energy and I feel great with my new eating habits." -- Beatriz, Devon, June 2004
