Holloway Breast Health Center Meet Our Medical Director
Robert Fried, MD, FACS Robert C. Fried, MD, FACE, is one of the region's foremost breast health specialists, an experienced surgeon who is consistently recognized as one of Philadelphia Magazine's "Top Docs". He has also been cited for excellence by the Main Line Times, and is regarded as a leader in emerging technologies. Dr. Fried is especially skilled in minimally invasive techniques such as stereotactic biopsy, a computer-aided techniques that can extract a viable tissue sample using only a needle. He is also one of the few area surgeons using Mammosite, a new radiation procedure that significantly reduces treatment time. A graduate of the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Dr. Fried received his postgraduate training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he specialized not only in surgery but also nutrition as it pertains to cancer prevention and treatment. He was awarded several distinguished Fellowships while pursuing his postgraduate education at HUP and served as Chief Resident for Surgery there in 1986-1987. A strong proponent of early detection, he has educated women throughout the region on how to spot warning signs early through self-examination. He is active in a number of professional organizations nationally and as a busy senior member of the Paoli Hospital staff, has served on more than a dozen committees during his tenure here.
