Childbirth Educator – Per diem, Lankenau Medical Center and Paoli Hospital
The Childbirth Educator participates in the formal teaching of the
various classes offered for pregnancy and early parenthood, through MLH
following the approved MLH Class Curriculum. The Childbirth Educator
conveys accurate, scientific, and practical information to assist
expectant parents in preparing for childbirth and the role of new
parents. The Childbirth Educator works cooperatively with the Manager of
the MLH Perinatal Education Program.
Graduate of approved school of nursing OR certification through
a nationally recognized organization, is required in classes
taught by non-RNs. Baccalaureate degree required to teach
non-prepared childbirth education classes, if not an RN.
Licensures & Certifications:
A current RN license to practice in Pennsylvania.
For those teaching Childbirth Education, certification is
preferred upon hire. Certification is required within 6 months
to one year of start date.
Membership in related field professional organization.
Certification in specialty related field preferred.
CPR Certification Required (BLS or AHA Heart Saver)
Minimum three years of recent/current clinical experience in OB
for nurses. Labor and Delivery clinical experience preferred.
Minimum of three years of perinatal education teaching
experience if non-RN.
Evidence of training and /or experience in teaching techniques.
The minimum requirements for teaching commitment:
Educator scheduling is done as a quarterly calendar.
(January–March, April–June, July–September and October–December)
Educators hired to teach Prepared Childbirth Classes are
required to teach the equivalent of six “One Day” Prepared
Childbirth Classes or Prepared Childbirth Series in a calendar
Scheduling availability provided must include
availability for two “One Day” Prepared
Childbirth Classes per scheduling quarter. This
will include teaching within the months of June,
July or August.
Four supplemental classes (Welcoming Baby,
Sibling Class, Unit Tours, Advanced Comfort
Measures, etc) will be taught per calendar year,
one per scheduling quarter.
