Compliance enjoy a traditional Devon Derby Day
treat – free popcorn!
Bryn Mawr Hospital staff and volunteers from the Devon Horse Show and
Country Fair celebrated an annual rite of spring on Thursday, April 26th
in the hospital cafeteria - Devon Derby Day! Festive decor, music,
balloons, popcorn, Devon fudge and lemon sticks – a Devon favorite –
generated lots of excitement for lunchtime staff and visitors. Devon
Derby volunteers did a brisk business selling chances on a 2012 VW Jetta
and other fabulous prizes. Winners will be drawn at the Horse Show on
Saturday, June 2. There was no shortage of takers for a special Phillies
raffle. The lucky winner was Karen Smith of Compliance. Karen and 3
guests will enjoy a Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park in the comfort
of the Owner’s Box, plus preferred parking and cocktails and dinner in
the Executive Dining Room prior to the game. Sorry, no peanuts or
Devon Day is a key opportunity for hospital employees to sign up to
volunteer at the Horse Show, which runs from Thursday, May 24 through
Sunday, June 3. Those who missed Devon Day but would like to join Team
BMH can volunteer
The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair is the single largest contributor
to Bryn Mawr Hospital. Since 1919, Devon has generated over $14 million
($50 million in today’s dollars). Last year’s donation of $402,000
– the largest ever – funded two new holding bays (recovery areas) in the
BMH Cardiac Catheterization Lab to accommodate increased patient volume.
The bays feature “radial” reclining chairs instead of stretchers. Today,
more than half of patients undergoing cardiac catheterization for
elective and emergent stent procedures are candidates for radial (wrist)
access, resulting in enhanced comfort, minimized risk of bleeding, and
more rapid recovery and discharge. Thank you, Devon!
About the Devon Horse Show
In 1896, the Devon Horse Show started as a one-day show. Now, years
later, it has become the oldest and largest outdoor multi-breed
competition in the United States. It is internationally recognized,
USEF-A rated, and one of the most exciting events to happen in our area.
While it draws top competitors from around the world, the show continues
to reflect the local traditions and lifestyles of the Philadelphia Main
Line. Learn more
