Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital has long been nationally recognized as a
comprehensive center for the evaluation and treatment of patients who
have experienced a life-altering illness or injury, including brain
injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain,
multiple trauma, amputations, and other orthopedic and neurological
Our outstanding medical and therapeutic staff serves approximately
2,900 patients a year on an inpatient basis, and provides more
than 50,000 treatment sessions in our outpatient programs
designed to maximize patient independence and foster community
The hospital has evolved to become a recognized leading provider of
physical medicine and rehabilitation services because of our ongoing
commitment to best serving the community. Over the past four
decades, we have continued to add new programs and services and made
investments in state-of-the-art diagnostic and training equipment to
provide the highest quality of care.
Over the past three years, the hospital has seen a dramatic 30%
increase in the number of outpatients presenting with neurological
illness or injury, such as stroke, brain
injury, concussion, and balance disorders. We are experiencing
an ongoing steep trendline with an additional 15% increase this
The need to continue our evolution is clear.
Two primary external forces are driving this increase in patient
volumes. One is the trend in insurance reimbursement that promotes
ever-limited inpatient stays to stabilize a patient’s medical condition
followed by more cost-efficient outpatient services. A second
reason is the greater awareness and recognition of concussion as a very
real injury to the brain with potentially long-lasting or even permanent
impairment without appropriate treatment.
Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital is
being selected by individuals and their families because of the clinical
expertise and experience our clinicians have in assessing and treating
the most complex cases in a setting that provides the full range of
necessary therapeutic services in one location.
Ninety-five percent of our outpatients live in Chester, Delaware, or
Montgomery Counties. They are our neighbors, our friends, and our family
members. Patients and families report feeling very fortunate that
Bryn Mawr Rehab is available “right in their backyard.”
Currently, Bryn Mawr Rehab provides outpatient neurorehabilitation
therapy services at two locations on its campus – in the Day Treatment
area and the Main Therapy Gym. We need to expand our footprint to
accommodate the demand for our services. At the same time, we plan
to consolidate our neurorehab services to one dedicated location in
order to foster a superior patient experience.
Fully integrating our clinicians and equipment in one area will allow a
synergy and efficiency that we haven’t yet reached. We will
achieve maximal patient outcomes by grouping our multi-disciplinary
clinical team. We will further serve patients through an
investment in technologically advanced equipment to augment and enhance
the recovery process.
We invite you to support the campaign to establish the COMPREHENSIVE
OUTPATIENT NEUROREHABILITATION CENTER to reflect the focus of
the interdisciplinary team treatment of the patient presenting with a
complex neurological condition. Few facilities can offer the wide
array of services that such patients require in one centralized
