Paoli Hospital Foundation Trustee Vanessa Oliver of Devon remembers
giving birth to her first child like it was yesterday. What seemed to be
a routine checkup with her obstetrician, Steven Krell, M.D., of Main
Line OB/GYN Associates, P.C., turned into one of the most serious events
of her life.
“I was at a 38 week appointment with Dr. Krell,” said Vanessa. “He was
monitoring the fetal heartbeat when something didn’t appear to be right
- my baby’s heart rate accelerated and decelerated. Before I realized
what was happening, I found myself at Paoli Hospital’s Maternity Unit,
greeted by a large team of caregivers who were prepared and waiting for
me and my baby. Their technical abilities were exceptional, but what
really took me by surprise was their genuine concern towards our
In the delivery room, Vanessa was met by obstetrician Mojdeh
Saberin-Williams, M.D., also of Main Line OB/GYN Associates, P.C.
“Everything was a blur at that point and Dr. Saberin-Williams was so
calm, compassionate, and focused. At that moment, I knew I was in the
hands of a remarkable doctor and we were all going to be ok.”
Vanessa delivered a healthy, happy, and bouncing baby boy, named Grant.
“As soon as Grant arrived, I could see everyone in the operating room
breath a huge sigh of relief,” said Vanessa. “Moments later, Dr. Krell
was calling to make sure that my baby and I were doing ok. It was
evident that the entire Paoli team was invested in making sure we had a
Twenty months later Vanessa delivered her second child, Tori (short for
Victoria), at Paoli Hospital. She delivered Tori with no problems and it
was equally memorable. “Grant and Tori are so special – they are
everything to my husband Dave and I,” said Vanessa. “Having children
makes you realize how fragile and precious life is. And you want the
best people in place when bringing your children into the world. We are
so thankful to Paoli Hospital’s Maternity Unit staff, Dr. Krell, and Dr.
Saberin- Williams. My experience delivering my children at the hospital
was the main reason why I wanted to be a part of the hospital’s
Foundation Board of Trustees and I am very honored to serve on the
Maternity and Nursery Expansion Campaign Committee. I want to make sure
this community gem continues to flourish.”
