The beautiful Bryn Mawr residence of Mr. and Mrs. S. Matthews V.
Hamilton, Jr. was the venue on November 2, 2011, of Merci Beaucoup,
the annual thank-you event for members of the Gerhard Society of Bryn
Mawr Hospital. The highlight of the evening’s celebration was the
presentation of the 2011 Gerhard Award to distinguished hospital
volunteers Lana H. Crawford, Joan T. Narrigan and Pauline T. (Polly)
Toland.
The Gerhard Award is conferred from time to time by the BMH Foundation
Board of Trustees to recognize extraordinary commitment and service to
Bryn Mawr Hospital. The 2011 honorees have given a combined total of
almost 100 years of active volunteer service. In addition, they have
served on the Foundation Board, the Women’s Board and are long-standing
members of The Gerhard Society. Over 180 members of the Gerhard Society
joined President Andrea Gilbert in celebrating the spirit of service and
philanthropy so abundantly represented by the 2011 Gerhard Award
honorees.
About The Gerhard Society
Named for Bryn Mawr Hospital founder, Dr. George S. Gerhard, the
Gerhard Society recognizes and honors individuals and organizations
whose charitable gifts to Bryn Mawr Hospital for any purpose total
$1,000 or more in one fiscal year (July 1 to June 30). Membership is
renewable annually. Established in 1979, the Gerhard Society has grown
from an initial 140 members to over 400 of Bryn Mawr Hospital’s most
committed philanthropic partners. Among them are grateful patients,
physicians, staff, volunteers and community members. Their collective
support annually represents over 80% of all charitable gifts,
perpetuating the tradition of philanthropy so central to the history and
growth of Bryn Mawr Hospital.
