Overview
Your heart’s electrical system controls how your heart pumps blood
throughout your body. Problems with this electrical system can
lead to cardiac arrhythmia, or heart rhythm disorders. The Main Line
Health Heart Center offers leading electrophysiology capabilities to
diagnose and treat these disorders. Some of the most common include
supraventricular arrhythmias, ventricular tachycardia and atrial
fibrillation.
The Main Line Health Heart Center’s state-of-the-art electrophysiology
labs offer integrated mapping and imaging systems. This technology helps
us better identify and address underlying factors in a heart rhythm
disorder. We offer a wide range of treatments – including atrial
fibrillation ablations; ventricular tachycardia ablations; single, dual
and biventricular pacemakers; and implantable
cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs). Our patients also have opportunities
to participate in clinical trials.
The Main Line Team
The Main Line Health Heart Center team includes skilled, experienced
electrophysiologists – each with more than 15 years of experience in the
field. Many also hold board certification. Complementing our physicians
is our outstanding nursing team. Main Line Health’s Bryn Mawr, Lankenau
and Paoli Hospitals have been recognized with Magnet® designation by the
American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). This designation places
Main Line Health in the top 3 percent of hospitals nationwide for
nursing excellence.
Our Experience
As one of the busiest in the Philadelphia area, our electrophysiology
center performs a high volume and broad range of procedures for heart
rhythm disorders:
-
We performed more than 300 electrophysiology procedures,
including procedures to treat atrial fibrillation and
ventricular tachycardia, in 2010.
-
Our center implanted more than 600 devices, including
biventricular pacemakers and implantable
cardioverter-defibrillator (ICDs), in 2010.
-
We offer sophisticated ablation treatments for people who have
atrial fibrillation that hasn’t responded to medical management.
-
We also use ablation to treat atrioventricular (AV) nodal
dysfunction, atrial tachycardia, accessory pathways, ventricular
tachycardia and atrial flutter.
