Fried, MD, FACS
Holloway Breast Health Center, Paoli Hospital
Robert C. Fried, MD, FACS, is one of the region's foremost breast health
specialists. An experienced surgeon who is consistently recognized as
one of Philadelphia Magazine's "Top Docs," he has also been cited for
excellence by the Main Line Times and is regarded as a leader in
emerging technologies. Fried is especially skilled in minimally
invasive techniques such as stereotactic
biopsy, a computer-aided technique that can extract a viable tissue
sample using only a needle. He is also one of the few area surgeons
using Mammosite, a new
radiation procedure that significantly reduces treatment time.
A graduate of the Washington University School of Medicine in St.
Louis, Fried received his postgraduate training at the Hospital of
the University of Pennsylvania (HUP), where he specialized not only in
surgery but also in nutrition, as it pertains to cancer prevention and
treatment. He was awarded several distinguished fellowships while
pursuing his postgraduate education at HUP and served as chief resident
for surgery there in 1986-1987.
A strong proponent of early cancer detection, Fried has educated
women throughout the region on how to spot warning signs through
self-examination. He is active in a number of professional organizations
nationally and, as a busy senior member of the Paoli Hospital staff, has
served on more than a dozen committees during his tenure here. He is
currently the chairman of the Medical Executive Committee and on the
Board of Governors for Main Line Health. Learn
